    Problem with PMMA cutting

    Hello,

I have a problem with PMMA cutting of 15mm of thickness with my laser 80W.
    On Lasercut 5.3, speed : 0.95 and power : 95

It cut well, but the PMMA meltquickly and it is not aesthetic.

Can you please help me ? Why does it make this ?

    Thans and best regards

    Hiya,

    Too much heat,
Wrong type of material to process with a laser,
    Not enough power,
Material too thick to cut reliably.

15mm PMMA is way to thick to be mucking about with on an 80 watt tube 15mm is a more realistic limit for a 130 to 150 watt tube and even then the results can be suspect to say the least.

Don't believe the hype vendors give out about lasers abilities, they rarely if ever get close to the "factory figures"

    best wishes

    Dave

    Material Problem.
We have tried other PMMA with Reci W2 and can be cut well. 15mm seems OK.

I use orignal PMMA Plexiglas XT from Röhm in Germany, the product is one of the best quality.
My laser tube is also a 80W Reci...

What is the parameter (speed, power) for 15mm PMMA ?

    Thanks and best regards

    Any thoughts Rodney G?

I'll still maintain to get a quality product with no melting 15mm PMMA is too thick for an 80 watt tube.

A 1 watt diode will cut 15mm EVENTUALLY but it will look terrible and take months.

Can cut and should cut are two entirely different things.

    best wishes

Please forget to cut 15mm acrylic with a Reci tube. Even a 150W Reci tube isn't really powerful enough to cut it at a reasonable speed. Cutting it at 2mm/sec will take hours for your job to finish and too much heat will build up on the edges and cause the edges to melt. I really do not recommend to cut acrylic thicker than 10mm on chinese lasers. I wish I could do it, but in the long run, it's just not possible.
