G0704 - next round of upgrades

...just can't leave well enough alone!

Next round of upgrades will be massive so I'm laying it all out before jumping in.

Here a list of items I'm upgrading to:

    1. Direct belt drive
    2. 1.5hp AC motor w/VFD
    3. Pneumatic drawbar release
    4. Counterbalance system

They all reside in generally the same area so I'm attacking it all at once. Here are some preliminary layout pics...

    Attachment 316602

I can pursue it in logical stages like doing the belt drive and AC motor in one stage and then follow up with the PDB and finally the counterbalance.

Anyone have an opinion on V-belt vs PolyRib (automotive serpentine style) belt?

    Attachment 317510Attachment 317512

I'm going back and forth between a 3L v-belt and 4-rib J-section belt for my spindle drive. Both will fit, both are readily available.

    Thanks.

I think I'm going to go the 1000:1 inverter duty route on my build. I plan on only having one set of pulleys at 2:1 so I can under/overdrive the VFD and motor to get my full spectrum of speed and torque.

I'm basically following Icvette's trial by fire wisdom and suggestions here:

    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/bencht...formation.html

The motor is 1725rpm x 2 (pulley ratio) = 3450rpm. Overdrive the VFD by 2x brings it theoretically up to 6900rpm.
