Question regarding Sprutcam, Iron CAD, etc.

Several years ago I took a CNC class at the local J.C. We did our programing using G code, saved it to a floppy, then loaded it into the machine. All was good, we knew nothing of the various software programs for running a job. I suppose they are necessary these days but they are a little pricy. Are you guys who are using Sprutcam and Iron CAD satisfied with them?

    Thanks,
    John

I would say that gcode is gcode... doesn't matter where it comes from...

but cad/cam does make it easier to visualize and generates gcode a bit faster than by doing it by hand...

    Me as well!

Its a much more capable program than some of the cheaper options, so it may take more time to learn. Tormach has some great tutorials on youtube now which would be a MASSIVE help learning. They were not available when I learned the program.

+2 for VCarve Pro if you are doing 2.5D work. Best purchase I ever made. (I do own Sprutcam, too. Don't use it.)

FYI:If you only need 2.5D CAM and have a Solidworks seat 2010 or newer then integrated HSMxpress CAM is free. HSMXpress | HSMWorks • Integrated CAM for SolidWorks

Don't know if there is a Tromach post though.
