    Cool canned cycles

    Hi,

After being a mazatrol/okuma lathe guy for the last couple of years, I took a job that's strictly g code. I am interested in using a lathe canned drilling cycle. Can anyone give me an example? I run a Mori Seiki SL 200.

    many thanks

    Buster:cheers:

Do you have the machine manuals there? Do you mean G74? Or G81/G83?

Can I assume it has a Fanuc control? If so the only canned drill cycle I know of is the G74. I don't like it for most drilling applications. Any of our lathes using G81/G83 drill cycles have it because the lathe has live tooling. No live tooling, no G81/G83...at least on our lathes. Do you have Macro B? Hope so as this is the best way to make a canned drill cycle.

The only thing i'm not sure of is how the Q depth of cut works. If I entered
    Q00025 is that .0025 or .025?

Q is expressed in ten thousandths of an inch. Q0001 is 1 ten thousandth of an inch (0.0001). Q0100 is 100 ten thousandths of an inch (0.0100). Q9999 is 9999 ten thousandths of an inch (0.9999).

This only works correctly if you have a Super Precision lathe which is programmable to 5 decimal places in which case it would be .00025.

If you are using Metric system G21 (mm) then
    Q30000 means 30mm
    Q3000 means 3mm
