Demise of the Image Tile menu?

Is it just me? or does anyone else miss the old Menu command system prior to AutoCad after R2006, and the ability to easily add Image Tile Menu's?
I have been struggling with setting up my different menus as I liked them in R14 but I have found that the only documentation on it mentions to use the Legacy Menu file type such as editing or creating a .MNS file, instead of the current .CUI menu.
But it appears that there are restrictions to using the legacy menu system?
I still have R14 loaded and often resort to using this for speed sake.
    Anyone solved the problem?
Unless I have missed something, it appears Image Tile menus' have been discouraged?
I have tried some of the alternatives that are suggested that supposedly replaced them, but have not found them a patch on the tile menu.

I've never seen a Tile Menu, and have used AutoCAD daily since R14.
I use a single custom toolbar, even in 2013.

The old common ones shipped by default was the Shape Tile menu and the Hatch Patterns.
I had set up all mine in R14, a different menu for each type of work, and each had their respective Tile menu's for all the blocks pertinent to that work.
    Electrical, Electronic, Hydraulic, Mechanical etc.
The .MNS file was edited in Wordpad etc, and a pull down added at the top of the menu for the slide.
With BLOCKS you have to remember what the name is and where it is.

No, But I have something better to replace it!

Can you recommend an alternative? For example if you work with a file of say 50-75 blocks, how do You set them up for fast access selection?
The one shown me so far does not cut it. Tool Palettes are not so good to me?

Yes it looks like it's no longer encouraged, but they still allow you to create it with the cui.

I personally hate palettes, and don't use them. For blocks, I simply use the insert block dialog. If there are multiples, I copy and paste the blocks.

As I was looking at the page I linked, something dawned on me.

Your Image Tile Menu looks strangely similar to a tool palette.

So I think you want to set up a Palette, instead of an Image Tile Menu.

Like I mentioned in post#6, I have tried the Tool pallets and to me they are not as nice or present as well as Tile menu's, one of these days I will take another crack at it, I tried in some Cad forums but did not really get any help other than 'set up a tool pallet'.
