    PMDC servo Motor -JAM

    Hi All,

We have a ABB make Permanent Magnet DC servo motor with
    Serial no. 8D46259HUR077.

It has been 10 year that we are using this motor. Motor was getting heated since few days and ultimately it Jammed.

Opened and found that few magnets have broken up and a few have left their position.Have fixed the magnets from other kaputt motor. The motor now runs fine but gets heated up.

Can somebody please suggest some measure to solve this problem.

I am also in need of technical details for motor with above serial no. , so that i can order an alternate motor., would highly appreciate any reply to find out technical details.

    B.Regards,
    Leo

If it was ran for any length of time when jammed it may have cooked one of the armature windings, especially if it now heats up when running free, off load.

old dc pm motor that got real hot.... often the magnets used DEMAGNETIZED when they got real hot. caused a snowball effect: hot=loose magnetism, so motor Kt goes down, so less torque per amp as before, so pulls more current, more current= hotter yet again, so loose more magnetism so Kt goes down more. More current required..... never ending circle, so no hope just gluing old demaged mags back in. u may need a replacement motor. a sn is of no value to anyone except the mfgr, so unless you ask ABB and they still support an old motor like this, you need to tell us here the motor PART number if you want any help on a replacement.

unless this motor has special geared feedback for CNC, then u will likely be 1,000% better off replacing both motor and drive with new ac brushless system. call ur local servo motor distributor.....

how if the magnets with same strength are replaced ?
Have understood how the magnets have been fixed polarity wise.

However as suggested by you, we can also go for alternative motor also. Can we also use a non magnetic type motor ? The existing motor also have motor drive from Deimo.

I am sorry for the typo, its not the serial no. its type

Looks like you have a digital tach in place of the usual DC? Which will make it hard to find.
Also if you go with wound field motor you will have to provide field supply.
