What is procedure for determining max stepper speed?

    Hello,
I have a new DIY setup, and am using Mach3, and was wondering what the technique is for determining my stepper max speed. I figure it has to do with running it faster and faster and seeing if it misses steps, but I am sure someone has a good procedure for this.
    Thanks,
    CP

Turn acceleration very low, and crank up velocity and listen/watch. When your happy, test it by moving it a certain distance full speed and see if it went that far.

Use an indicator and a 1,2,3 block. Zero the indicator and the axis within Mach, move the table away from the indicator. Do some rapids (never moving or touching the indicator yet). Then go back to zero. Did you loose any position? If not, up the velocity and try again. This can only be done after each axis is calibrated, backlash measured and corrected or compensated for in Mach.
A lazy man does it twice.
