Re: Cheap TTS style collet chucks

20% and free shipping from Enco if you order before tomorrow night (6/30). They have some jacob's chucks already on sale, if you pick the right ones., you can get a really good deal.
    Coupons: 20JUNVIP and JUNSHIP

EDIT: my synapses were firing at random there. I just bought a couple of Jacob's drill chucks (they were on sale + % off + free ship made them a steal), but of course the poster above is talking about TTS ER20 chucks, when Enco doesn't have. You could buy ER20 collets from them, however.

no story. just flames and melty plastic. hehe. spark from cutting steel hit some wood dust I was too lazy to vacuum up first and lit up. less than 30 seconds of fire, but it got behind the column and melted the wiring from the cabinet to the motors. been too bust with my router to fix it for now. It needed a new spindle cartridge and motor anyway so im looking for bt30 maybe.

A trip to the hardware store fixed mine, I just replaced them all with new ones, they were much better quality and the standard wrenchs fit the various sizes involved.

    Hi,

Can someone please tell me what thread is used in the shank of the TTS and how deep it is?

If not threaded, diameter and depth of the hole?

    thanks

I have real Tormach ER and Weldon shank style TTS holders plus some ER ones from Darkon and none have threading inside the shanks. The diameter of the shank OD is 0.750. See http://www.cnczone.com/forums/attach...1&d=1168031791 for a drawing of the screw type holders.

There are no threads in the shank of any TTS holder, and the bore size is different for different holders. Some have thru-bores as large as 1/2", some have no thru-bore at all.

Thanks for the pointer to the drawing, kstrauss.

Also thanks SCzEngrgGroup for clarifying the mystery of the shankhole (sounds like something nasty you'd call someone, doesn't it?)

Anyone know the diameter of the toolchanger disk, as well as the ID's and depth of the collet clearance well?

I Just received some collet chucks from YSTools. Very happy. All surfaces nicely ground.
Clocked em up on the shank of a endmill and they are more accurate then my Tormach tts holders.

Just wondering if anyone has tried YSTools 50mm Face End Mill Cutter?

It's most likely these guys. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a set of these today. I need to see if they sell ER16 sets as well.

It has a longer shank so I'm not sure if this would be a problem. At work so can't check.

On a second look I don't think it would work. The surface that sits against the spindle is not ground and looks too small

I doubt that it is too small since it appears to be about the same diameter as the body of the 50mm face mill and these are typically 1.75 or larger at the base. You could always add one of the TTS adapter rings from Tormach and cut off the too-long shank.

    Good point.
I did think of the adapter ring. Problem is I live in NZ this all adds up to expensive shipping costs for an Unknown/tested tool.
The ring would also take up some of the longer shank so it may not require cutting.

YSTool 50mm Face End Mill including 10 carbide inserts $65 + Tormach Adapter ring $17.50 = $82.50 USD plus shipping cost from both companies.
    Tormach TTS 2" Shear-Hog (50mm) including 2 Carbide Inserts $395 plus shipping
Or you could compare it against the Tormach 38mm Face Mill with TTS arbor and 10 Carbide inserts for $316.41

I bought one of these about a year ago from YS Tool and it has worked well:
