    Rigid tapping problem on VF-2

My VF-2 is tapping deeper than the programmed depth. I don't use a spring type tool holder. I use a collet chuck.
    Rigid tapping is active.
If I program a depth of 0.440, it taps 0.590 (approx.) deep. I even moved -Z- clear to 1.00 above the part but it doesn't make any difference.

My VF-2 was built in 1999.
    Mocon 10.02
    Version M10.20F

    The program looks like this:

    T6 M6
    (6-32 Roll Tap)
    G0 G40 G49 G80 G90 G98
    G0 G55 G90 X0.0 Y1.037 M5
    G43 H46 Z1.0 M8
    G04 P1000
    G98 G84 Z-0.44 F37.5 S1200 R1.0 M41
    G80 M09

I'd really like to figure out what the problem is. My other VF-2 also does it.

Does it go to a different Z level if you change speed and feed?

I haven't tried. I guess I'll have to call HAAS. IT should go to the correct depth.

    Was that intentional?

Have you stopped it at its clearance plane and slid a gauge block under it to see where it's at?

It should go to the correct depth, if you have all the offsets correct.

    Offset is correct.

    Intentional, Yes.

What was the result of changing the speed and feed? Different Z depth?

Take the M41 off of the tap line. I tried it on my VF-2 and it went deeper than programmed too. Took it out and it went to the correct depth.

M41 forces it into low gear and somehow messes it up.

Sure nice when the poster lets us know if it worked for them.

just curious as to why you are using length offset 46? if you set your tool at offset # 46 should be fine. change g43h46 to g43h6 set your tool at offset #6 do you have the setting, (tool offset measure uses work) turned on? any additional z comp in g55?

The answer has been given, it was the M41. Tested and verified.
