    Question Sometimes no Z rapid moves

    I have identical operations - face mill - very simple.

    First one has Z1.0 rapids like I want - 2nd one doesn't rapid up but just feeds back across to start point and then does next z minus step.

    whats up ? any know what I'm doing wrong? lol

    Z moves

    Hi Paradiddle,

    NC -> 2 Axis -> Options -> 2Axis Options -> Maximum Feed Between

    ************************************************** *******
    MAXIMUM FEED BETWEEN (From Surfcam Help)

    If the move is smaller than this value, the cutter moves to the Feed Between Clearance before moving to the start of the next pass.
    If the move is larger than this value, the cutter moves to the Rapid plane.

    The minimum distance would be the amount in the box if "Constant" shows, or the amount in the box multiplied by the radius of the cutter if "Cutter Radius" shows.

    good luck,

    nick

    Bang !!! that works - I changed from cutter rad to constant and I get z rapids. I also see how it will stay down if you want.

    Thanks - - Now I understand

    "When the tool finishes one pass and must move to the start of the next pass, it can either rapid up and over, or feed across the part at the current feed rate setting. If the distance from the end of one pass to the start of the next is smaller than the value specified here, the tool will feed across without retracting from the work." from surfcam help....
