    Benchtop lathe

I'm looking into getting a lathe and have stumbled upon the Proxxon PD400.

The prices (ex vat) are €3025 and €1360 for the model with and without cnc.

On eBay I can get a 4-axis nema 23 kit for around €400.

So my question is if it's feasible to do the cnc conversion myself and spend the saved money on tools for the lathe?

    Kind regards,
    Jens

    You could convert yourself but...

...you may find that the with-cnc version has ballscrews instead of acme ones for the leadscrews. These would make for a better machine. Of course, you could supply these yourself, but it would add to your list of things to get. As would the couplers you'd need to join the steppers to the leadscrews. And you'd have to fabricate mounts.

I've no experience of either version, so this is just commenting from the spec sheet.
