We were setting up the referance axes, the X axis in fact.

Came up against the stop so limit switch activated the emergency stop.

Display said press "reset", but cannot move bed in any axis!, "fault" keeps registering emergency stop etc etc

Is there another physical reset anywhere?

Its been a while since i worked on a Hawk (Dynapath) but i do remember the same problem after an overtravel...

Isn't there a overtravel release on the back of the electronic box ? Or on the side of Monitor box ?
It didn't always work for me either so do this...

...Turn the power off, manually turn the ballscrew under the table (wear gloves)
to get in front of the limit switch again... turn power back on ... jog with axis at least 4 inches (100mm) away from switch and re-home the axis.
