    Program Recovery

    Hello All,

It seems as though someone, now no longer with the company deleted alot of programs out of the lathe.
My question is: Is it possible to recover these programs? Are they gone for good?
I assume they get stored on some sort flash memory and not a hard drive.
If they are stored on a hard drive then I know they could be recovered.

Thanks All for any and all help/info on this.

    Lathe is a HAAS SL-20T

Gone for good I'm afraid. No back-ups at all?

No backups that we can seem to find. More than likely the backups/originals have gone the way of the former employee. I am sure the former employee has a copy but who knows. He might have just been trying to screw us. He use to do all the lathe programming on the lathe as opposed to using Cad/Cam software to create the G-code.

Wow - you guys don't back up programs?(nuts)

Did he just program at the machine? Or did he use software?

It takes all of about 26 seconds to back up EVERY program in the control onto the network or other computer.

We tend to do everything in Matercam. So it is saved on the network as well as in the controller and the network is backed up.

He used to program everything on the lathe "on the lathe". He was more that just your standard employee. He had a vested interest in company. Also the only one who really programmed the lathe. Our only Toolmaker in the company.

Funny thing is not "all" the programs have been deleted. But most have.

I am sure he backed up all the programs for himself. I am also sure he will deny that he has them.

Did he use rs-232 or floppy? If floppy there may still be some on the disk.

If rs-232 look on the computer he used. May be in a file for transfer or in the "Trash." Attempt to create and send a file and see where it saves them to.

Whatever you find can be simulated to ID the programs.

    Best of luck---Mike

    Matercam? You mean Mastercam?

So you tend to do everything in Mastercam but he did everything "on the lathe"....I am confused.

I think that you will probably have to kiss them goodbye. Sounds like (since you are posting here) you guys parted on not so good terms.

A co-owner, an employee shareholder? I think there might be a back story bigger than some missing programs. He could have the opinion that those programs are his intellectual property.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
