    Shopmill Helical Insertion

    Hi guy's,

Could someone please explain Shopmill Helical Insertion?

I am unsure what EP (Insertion Pitch) or ER (Insertion Radius) means.

I have seen this 'In action'. The EP was 7, and the ER was 2.

I noticed the cutter cut -7.0mm and then appeared to step out, cut a complete radius, and then continue downwards in the same manner to the -75mm it was set to.

This avoids the tool plunging to the full -75 mm and allows the tool to cut its own chip relief on the way down. Normally would be used for a pocketing operation.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

So if I understand you correctly:

If I programmed a 40mm diameter pocket, 40mm deep and set the EP to 5 and the ER to 2. The cutter would cut a 38mm diameter pocket 5mm deep, then step out to 40mm, do a complete 360, and then continue downwards in this manner?
