problem in current limiting in l297??

    hi
    i make drive with l297 and l6203

and it wrok for stepping motor but the motor get hot i measure current that in to drive surprise i found it 8A.

i shut down it quickely and make new driver and new ic l6203

but i found that current limit doesn`t work.

when i short vref to ground the current still high ,even if the motor can spin but get hot.

the question is how can i reduce the current??

i think vref ,sens and control pins in l297 are useless

It is not practical to troubleshoot your circuit from here. These chips are used successfully by others, so I don't think it is a chip design problem.

Maybe you have damaged your chip? Maybe you have a wiring problem?
Do you fully understand the datasheet of each chip and ensure that you follow it correctly? Do you use an oscilloscope for troubleshooting?

I haven't used these chips so I'm not fully familiar with them.
