rong fu 30 mill cnc conversion help

Sorry if this info has been posted but i have a rong fu 30 mill i would like to convert into a cnc machine.
it looks just like this one

I have 4 300oz stepper motors and was going to do a 4 to 1 gear ratio to increase the power of them.
But i was told to do a 1 to 1 to keep backlash out.
I was wondering if someone has taken on this task with this mill and has any advice for the job?
Im looking to mill small aluminum parts and acetal.
    i have a 3 motor controller with a 24V 5A psu.
    the motors i have are 5718L-01S 1.4A

Again if someone has any advice for this to keep this mill running smooth so i can work and mil some small hobby parts with.
    Thanks so much!

Sry to double post but some good place to get some decent priced Acme Lead Screws & Ball Screws
Also should i go with rolled or ground?
Im looking for a decent balance of price and performance.
Im not looking to build a rocket engine but still want to have decent tolerances.

Many RF 3- and 31's have been converted so it is nothing new.

The Z is the only challenge and also a weak point if the quill is not tight. Yours looks like a older one and should have been made in Taiwan and they had much better quill's.

I would search the Zone for some RF-31 builds for easy to make ideas on the quill feed. I have seen a few setups that use the stock drive setup and reverse the quill spring to remove the backlash in the rack and it worked OK.

I would not spend too much money as your much better off getting a square column mill like the Weiss 30 or a Grizzly G00704.

Roton has good low price ball screws or the ebay guy has the RM brand stuff from China that many have used.

I have 4 or 5 extra new Roton 5/8" screws I could turn down for you if you want some basic ball screws for the table. Just send me a PM.

Rolled screw are just fine for the kind of stuff you can do on the RF-30/31
