Yeah, I watched some videos on installing the surface mounts and soldering wasn't a problem,
seeing those little buggers is hard, I've been getting more farsighted and the magnifying lenses just make things look normal.
Guess grampa needs to get glasses. and more magnification.

    Hoss,
Can you tell me how far the rods are apart on the X Axis on the Prusa? I'm wondering if the H1 can use other extruders out there.

I'll measure it a little later for you.

There's 65mm between the x rails center to center.

No need for expensive plastics, just print the ball and snap it off when finished.

I printed several like that, there are a couple different version available on thingiverse

Getting closer, just a few odds and ends and the electronics will be done.
Waiting on a thermistor and resistor not in stock to install the heated bed and hot end.
Hopefully they show soon but I could dive into the H1 if there's a wait.

Looks like a fun little project. My life is easy, I just print stuff on the Objet at work. We had an FDM machine, which is the technology used on the DIY type machines. You really need support material to hold complex undercut features, and then dissolving the support is a huge pain in the butt. The real trick is figuring out which way to layer the part based on the load it needs to support. FDM plastic is tough, but it shears along the layer boundaries. The Objet technology and material is nice because the support blasts off with a pressure washer pretty easily.

Even the expensive commercial machines struggle to hold tolerance, flatness, concentricity etc. Although the main larger features might be good to .005" to even .001" the small features always end up larger than you want and you have to file everything to fit together.

Pretty cool though to screw with at home. Enjoy!

Glad I didn't go for the Ramps kit. I'll just note a few differences.
I went with the Gen6 assembled and tested. It has the onboard drivers. I would have preferred the plug in type like Hoss has, but no way am I experienced enough to solder those tiny parts.
This is an all in one board though and it's pretty much plug and play. I can deal with that.

Also the bolt I got with my Wade's extruder has the hobbing done already. I think they may have snoozed on yours or perhaps it was an little older kit but hobbing isn't difficult.

I ordered this package Saturday morning and it showed up Monday afternoon.
    Very fast shipping.

I also ordered my motors with the plugs included, so they should all just plug into the Gen 6 board.

Another difference is not limit switches for the Gen 6. It has prewired opto sensors instead. Much more user friendly and plug an play once again.

Well that sounds so easy its almost like cheating.
I might have to try those on the 3rd one.

Well, thought I'd stop in and say Hi! This is John here from SeeMeCNC. Hoss, thanks for picking up a kit, we had a blast stumbling onto this thread today and seeing you unpack our kit. Too Cool! And Richard, I see you on here too! As for mhackney, your kits' ready to ship and packed, but still waiting on the stepper motors from our asian friends. If you want me to ship you minus the motors, I'll ship those soon as they come in. Just drop me an email @ seemecnc gmail and I'll get it out.

Still too cool to just stumble onto a 10 page thread that has our little machine in it a few places. Hoss, anything you need, let me know (Like a tripod camera mount that you can print@!)

    Later guys,
    John "Oly"

Some 1/4" glass on top with a few binder clips fixed it right up. Now I'm waiting on some more teflon tube because I got a little carried away with the heat. First print was okay, second was much better until my melt down.

Thanks for checking in John. I just about have all the electronic pieces collected
to go with the kit I got.
Hopefully I'll start working on it soon, want the first one done first.
Wish I'd have known about your kits just a little sooner but oh well.

Hey John, I think you'll see a few "build threads" popping up here as we get our SeeMeCNC kits. No hurry on mine as I told you when you called yesterday. I am leaving to ski in CO next week so I won't get much done until I return anyway.

    cheers,

Just got off the phone with Steve (and John was in the background) at SeeMeCNC. They are now offering the 2mm and 4mm teflon tubing used to line the hot end barrel. If you want to use 3mm filament, you can get the 4m tubing you need from them now. I ordered a foot of each to have when I need it.

    cheers,
    Michael

This is good information. I'll have to get them them to add that to my shipment of stepper motors that should go out later in the week. Thanks for the 1:2

Better hurry! I just got the shipment notice that my kit and tubing was shipped this afternoon. Their order of motors came in today so they will be fulfilling kit orders. I called them to ask to have the tubing added on so I don't have to pay additional shipping. They were happy to do it. But give them a call!

    cheers,
    Michael

Yep I just got a notice that my Kit shipped as well.
Of course I'm out of the country all next week, so I wont get to start assembly for a couple of weeks.

Yeah, and I'm skiing in Colorado next week so I won't be able to get started until I get back too. I'll start a build thread then. I also ordered a generation 6 Arduino board to experiment with. I like the idea of having a free-standing machine that I can take to my reel building workshops and maybe have the machine print a fishing reel while the class makes one in metal!

    cheers,
