AC powered stepper driver: pros and cons.

    Hello people!

Has anyone tried those AC powered stepper drives?
Seems like those are for large! hybrid steppers (mid- nema42 and up).

I am looking to choose the appropriate drive system for my home-made 3-axis router (there is no pictures of it yet, its on the paper so far). It is going to be 4x2x1 ft working area. Ball screw driven. I want to make it as quick and as accurate as possible, 1000~2000 ipm, 4~5 G is desirable.

Is there any info or feedback on those? any ideas?

    Thanks.

AC powered usually mean the DC supply is included in the drive itself?
More info is needed to comment further.

    Hi Al.
    Thank you for answering!

    Something like this:

Motion Control Products | Stepper Drivers | MSD2278 AC powered High Performance Stepper Driver

    or like this:

    Nema 34 /42 stepper motor driver DQ2722M 7A 110-220VAC | eBay

Is this the very same type of drive as the DC powered, just includes DC supply within?

Al is the man, they are just driver with the power supply built in. And since you would need 3 or 4 for a CNC machine, paying 3 or 4 times for individual power supplies is probably not economical. Buy several Linisteppers or GeckoDrives and a /single/ power supply.
