Spindle on in set up mode

Can I turn on my spindle during set up when using a wiggler to find the center of a hole?

    If so how?

Of course, MDI an "M3 S1234" "Write" and "Start". After that you can start and stop the spindle with the soft keys.

Or go into manual (Hand/Jog) type 750 and press CW or CCW. Reset or STOP stops it.
If on a newer machine you have to turn the key to SETUP and do the above with the doors open. It won't go higher than 750.

I have my MDI mode screen with a S1000 M03, all the time. After you start it at the designated speed, you can just hit the forward (CW) or reverse (CCW) button on the panel as Toymaker said.

One word of caution, make sure you have not run a program with a different rpm speed since the last time you used your MDI speed. Lost a nice co-axial indicator to someone hitting CW after a 7500 rpm program.

One other bit of info, when touching on some edges, CCW is easier to see the jump than CW. In that case just push the other button, takes only a second.

Thanks for reminding me, I forget about those Haas shortcuts, not all controls are Haas. But most all use the MDI method.

Good point, must have been a horizontal or a lathe.

No, 1998 VF-4. Don't think we ever found all of those parts!
