I was messing around with the vertical lathe setup this weekend and found that it can do G96 (CSS) constant surface speed. I had read in the mach forums that it was bugy and wanted to see. it turns out that it only has a problem in FPR feed mode ( G95 feed per rev ) but it seems to work fine in FPM ( G94 feed per minute ) mode. I am not really sure how much I would use this but " I had to know"
The code for this cut is..
G20 G40 (inch and clear any comp.)
G00 X1.635 Z-0.02 (rapid to start point)
G48 S4000 (set max spindle speed)
G96 S300 M3 (select CSS and sfm and start spindle)
G94 (set to feed/min)
G01 X-.05 F3 (feed to X... @f3)
g0 z.1 (retract to safe Z)
x2.1 (retract to clear work )
G97 S0 M3 (set to rpm mode)
M30 (all done)
The G48 sets a max allowable rpm ( I wasn't sure how fast I could spin that R8 chuck)
Not sure how much I will use this...but I thought it was cool.
Listen to the spindle ramp up as the diameter gets smaller.
