How do I know if I have sync tapping?

I have an older MC4VA with an OSP5000M-G controller. How do I know if I have rigid or sync tapping cycle? I have tried G284 but it errors on that. I am trying to run a large tap in and out twice and its off pitch on the second cycle...

Our old 4VA could not rigid tap

We always had to use floating holders
& program the feed in units per minute, it couldn't do a G95

PS -- we couldn't even do ramping on an arc ( ie helix cutting a bore had to be done by point to point )

If you don't have an encoder on the final spindle, then that points to not having the option.
