This is for Cent 5 but is pretty much the same.
Take a look at the bearings on the ball screws as well.
We have a Partner 4/Cent V at work that has a bad habit of working loose every now and again.
I used a dial indicator, riding on the end of the screw, mag base mounted on the end of the axis, to check for backlash. You need to loosen off the belt drive, remove the pulley from the screw, to access the bearing adjuster.
The bearing adjuster on ours has a bend tab to lock it in place.
If that made any sense...
A look at the parts diagrams in the manual may make that clearer.
Cheers

ok thanks you all. i will try that
Call Milltronics service ( 952-442-1401) They have a nice procedure to check and set backlash. Have the machine S/N when you call, they will appreciate it.
If you have over .001" in backlash I would suspect that it is time for new thrust bearings. or something is loose.
by the way when entering in backlash parameters you can enter to 5 digits ie: .00055, it will only display 4 digits but will use all 5 to compensate for backlash. ie .00002 will show as .0000.
On your drive error problem, you could have DC motor arcing, drive board adjustments, encoder issues.
If the error is repetable, for 449 (drive fault) errors look for the drive fault lights on the drive cards ( 4 red leds) (assuming an older macine with DC drives) you will have to watch the drive fault lights while someone runs the machine on the front side, also note the "red message" error # on the screen, different error #'s mean different problems, ie: 449, 407,408,409 etc.
