    help finding a machine

    Hi,

Im looking for a machine that will do the following:

    • 4-axis
    • small size (12"x12"x6" or smaller)
    • cut wood, wax, and possibly light medal
    • high precision for jewelry

Im fine with a kit but i need to learn the basics, so if you wouldnt mind explain why you recommend what you do. Ive already looked at ones by zen tool works and like what they have 3 axis wise.

    Thanks

Look at the Zen Toolworks, Zenbot, Fireball V90 and Microcarve A4 machines. They're all discussed in the forums.

I have a V90. It works as advertised. It isn't the strongest machine in the world, but it does the wood and MDF cutting for which I bought it.

Those are good choices for a 3-axis cutter but I'm looking for a 4-axis, do you have any suggestions?

it is in the higher budget catagory yet the stinger has the rotary axis feature, built like a harley davidson and will last as long

    Check out Roland

    Check out Roland.
Had a post here a while ago wanting to buy one. Ended up with something else. Incidentally, someone on this forum contacted me to see if I was still in the market for one. Maybe check with him/her. Think it was a used machine.
Look for the latest reply to a post called "Used Roland MDX-20/40/540/650" in the "want to buy section."

Roland machines are pretty nice, but the cost is many times the $1K mentioned above. The 650 is in the $25K+ range for a basic, 3 axis, new machine.

I visited with the mid-west sales person a few weeks back as he was traveling around with a demo machine in a trailer.

You are going to be limiting your 4th axis options with a 12"x12" work envelop.

For example the system pictured shows a stepper powered 4th Axis option.

That same system is available in a 24"x12"x6" version with the 4th Axis option pictured, which has a 4" diameter capacity.

To get the precision you need for doing jewelry I'd recommend an AC Induction spindle....while you don't need the power, the increased tightness of the runout will give you the precision you require.

If you are interested in more details, private message me.
