Basic Programming Help for a Beginner Please!

    Hi all,

sorry this is very basic stuff- I have bought a Bridgeport Interact mill with Heidenhain 151 control, I will be picking it up this week (bought from a friend who is retiring and selling equipment) but I would like to be able to write the programmes on my laptop in the office, then go out and plug it in using the supplied lead rather than program it all at the machine.

I haven't used it at all yet and the chap who used to do the programming has left but I have all the manuals etc, and will most likely try and find someone to give me a few lessons with it anyway.

I would like to know what sort of software there is available to download onto my computer, I'm a pretty good learner and I have been using manual machines for years, it's just the CNC side which is new to me! (And probably trying to get rid of some old bad habits when it comes to it!)

    Any help appreciated,
    TC.

There are two main options Mach3 for Windows and EMC2 for Linux. A lot of folks on here use Mach3 and there is a free demo available. Emc2 is open source.
