    unipolar stepper

    Hi

I am a first time cnc user ..

I have bought three 5 wire steppers which I think are unipolar..

I also have a AlienCnc 3 axis driver .. which I think is for bipolar...

I need to know how to wire the motors to use the Bipolar driver ..

The 5th wire on the motors is a White common..

Please advise on voltage settings etc.. many thanks ... adrobbi

    adrobbi,

if all you want to see is the motors spinning, you can wire unipolar motors to bipolar drives but you end up compromising on torque. You do this by using only half of the windings of a unipolar motor.

For specific info you must provide details of your motors and drives so that someone here can help you.

If you must use these motors, build or buy unipolar motor drives. There are many designs you can try, I suggest you check out linistepper, they are small and easy to build, or you could get some bipolar motors that match you drive.

Yeah, I forgot to add that, you can do that only with 6 wires so you connect one phase and a center tap as a winding to the bipolar drive, you cant do that on 5 wire unipolar ones. Thanks pminimo for the correction.

    Motor found

Did you find any info on that motor as I have found one when clearing out my garage I used to run it and I know it came out of a Ricoh Photocopyer so any info would be good as I'm starting up again 23pm-c315-04 for J.M.P

found this data on the web for the LM model, should be comparible. The winding resistance matches my motor.

    MODEL:23LM-C315
    ANGLE: 1.8
    VOLTs: 24
    AMP: 0.21
    OHM: 114
    TORQUE: 4.5 kg/cm
