Hey everyone. I have been looking around the web for sometime now on 3d printers. looks like I am gonna start with a prusa mendel. I bought a set of plastic parts on ebay and should be in by mid week. All other hardware except the electronics and belts I am getting from Home | Fastenal.
I guess I could have cut the plastic parts on my cnc router but I didnt. The parts looked too good and the price was right to pass up.
Right now my only problem is the electronics. I wonder if the hobbycnc pro 4 axis board would drive the Prusa? If anyone would chime in on this it would be great. If not the hobbycnc board then what board and add ons should I be looking for?
Ill post some pics as parts start coming in.

I am about to start building a Prusa too.

I am in Europe, so I got the printed parts off eBay, the hardware kit from Thingfarm and the all in one electronics (GEN6) from mendel-parts.com.

I ordered the GEN6 this morning, so haven't started building yet.

You could use one of the standard stepper driver motor set-ups, but then you would not be able to use the normal RepRap software etc. and would have to go down something like the EMC2 route to drive it.

On the mach support forum I was just reading where some guys at USC are using the MK6 Stepstruder with Mach 3. He claims to be using the serial port for temperature control and the PP for all else. Makerbot told me to look into the Prussa ( I want to install a toolhead on my existing mill (repstrap?)
