Yeah i lowered the screw. It needed it to have proper clearance and a sturdy design of the ballnut mount. I also changed the position of the x screw to be lower.

Honestly looking at my pictures are your best bet. You should be measuring and designing based on your machine. These RF45s are all different. I had to do things that others didnt.

Congrats on the new machine. If The Lord is willing, I will hopefully start a rf45 conversion next year. Your thread will be one of the few I have read through the last couple years for this conversion. BTW I guess the EVO and the wife park outside? That new machine is a beast!!

Temporary storage until the mill is put on the new stand.

    Is this stainless or aluminum?

    What gauge?

    Thanks,

    ^^^^^^ Aluminum is .032" thick.

Just a little bump for those interested in the difference in cycle time of a proper machining center versus a hobby grade machine I have video of doing the same operation on my old RF45 CNC and the Speedio.

Total cycle time includes putting the knob in the vise and setting the Z height. On the RF45 I used a gauge block, on the Speedio it's probed.

Total Cycle time RF45 CNC: 3:30 seconds.
Total Cycle time Speedio: 53 seconds

Raw machining time removes the setup and it's just the cutting:

    Raw time RF45: 2:45 seconds.
    Raw time Speedio: 27 seconds.

Total time the Speedio is 4X faster.
Raw time the Speedio is 6.11X faster.

    Re: PM-45 CNC Conversion (RF45)

Hi jid2, I just started reading your thread, so apologies if these were answered. Did you RF-45 end up being able to hold 0.001? or better? Did you use C5 ballscrews?
Where I come from anything better than C5 seems to get exponentially more expensive. From my little reading these might be required for the accuracy I'm after.
I am basically wondering if I throw money at my RF-45 can I get an accurate CNC machine (albeit not as fast as a proper VMC)
    Thanks, and nice machines.
