M4s are from late 70's, so all wiring is need to renew if you want make reliable machine. Also servo motors & drives have to change new ones, and if there is DC-spindle it should change new AC-type, 3-phase motor + vector frequency converter. Have your M4 gearbox with hydraulic changer or variable speed DC-motor?

Servo sets are not that expensive, around 0.50$ - 1$/1W. Spindle sets around 0.10$/W. If you want safe some money, you could use original servo motors and drives. Allthough, I don't recommend that ever, even old ones are "good"...

Secondly if your country is part of European Union, you should make some safety systems. Safety relays, door locks and that kind of stuff is not spoiled with price, don't worry about those. Safety first!

Components are quite small part of modernizations price, work is lot more expensive (at least in Finland...).

Wiring job is quite hard to say what it could cost, it depands country. So 5000$ - 15000$ is price for your M4 modernization, depending what you are ready to change.

But over all price is not the issue, if you get many years more life time for your machine.

    Johannes

Yes, that is USA's LNC agent. We are not going to step other agents's toes, so we don't sell countries where have allready LNC agent. So if you want controller and you are from USA, we'll redirect to you Broussard.

We respect others business. We are LNC's authorized agent in Finland, but we can sell countries, which have no agent yet. Here CNC-zone have users from 200 countries, so we think out there could be still new potential clients

And of cource, LNC users can always ask us technical support regardless their country. We'll help gladly.

    Hello Jonne,
So your CNC controller work well with existing DC servo motor. I have all DC motor M10 and M20 in my mazak, just need to buy controller. Is that right.

Yes and no. Old DC servos are not very reliable and secondly you have to figure out how those exactly work (like signals SON, RDY, ALR...).

You get lot easier if you put new AC servos, example Panasonic, Yaskawa, Delta, Teco... You don't have innovate wheel again, and you safe time and your nerves. Also new servos would be reliable.
