I am looking into buying a cnc milling machine and I have read many forums and data sheets to try and get the most for my money. I am new to milling. And new to CNCzone.com!

Is there a difference in performance between a ready made cnc machine like the KX3 and between a factory cnc converted BF20? (There is a German dealer who can make the cnc conversion when buying a new BF20/BF30/BF46 machine from them. I don't want to do the conversion myself.)

What I am also trying to figure out is if there is some "magic" going on in the ready made cnc machines that the converted ones don't have? Once converted they should basically be able to do the same things right?

I see that many ready made cnc machines have this "one-shot lubrication" systems. Do you need something like that for the BF20?

BF20L pros:
Large table and X-travel.

KX3 pros:
5000rpm and the price.

The cost to CNC all but the BF-46 if you did it yourself would be about $1500 or less.

The machines cost about $1000 to $2000.

I don't see the conversion being worth $4000 but perhaps you do.

You also have a vary wide range of machines. From 200 to 900 pounds. The smallest machine I would get is the BF-20. You may not need or want the larger BF-46.

I have a Weiss 30 and vary happy with it and it cost about $1600. I could CNC it for about $650 with rolled ball screws and steppers.

If I remember correctly the German dealer wants 3190 euro for the cnc-kit including assembly and another 1650 euro for the ballscrews including assembly.

The only difference is that the other German dealer will build/assemble the whole thing for me. I must be missing something. Do you mean that parts are too expensive? Should I not buy them from Optimum?
