New Viper 200 drive in the works

I've redesigned the Viper 200 for easier installation. Power and motor connections are all on the same side for easier mounting in a cabinet.

I will have some proto pcb's next week and production boards in about a month. This drive will also have a host of new features such as soft disable, serial control with handshake, and better current monitoring.

Sounds like some nice improvements to an already good product.
Larry - any chance of you putting some command line controls to the Servo Motors - to test the Viper card to the servo motor directly from the Viper?

This might make the Control card parameter set up easier than going into the Viper, set the settings, save the settings, then getting out to the controller software (in my case Mach3), running some code or MDI then back into the larken, etc...

Yes, I have added new commands to the latest version to Excercise the drive.
You can set distance and speed of the cycling. It makes tuning much easier.

I also have a tuning program started and it should be done soon.

    Larry,

How are things going with the new viper 200? Do you have the tuning program finished?

What kind of price will these new drivers have?

    Thanks,
    Jack

Yes ! I've just finished them and shipped 8 this week.
    Many changes
    - 300khz step rate
    - new connector layout
    - Current setting now in software
    - Higher baudrate for the new tuning program 'ViperTune'
    - Error codes are now flashed as a count
    - 45 Amp peak 180 volt rating 30amp continous

Here are some pictures. On the Viper 200 the power and motor connector are now on the same side.

    Thanks,
yes the new board is working good. Its taken a while (over the winter) to get 2 proto versions of the new boards and update the software.

I'm still building them by hand in my shop but i need to get a batch assembled for me. Just rounding up the cash. I've got a few cnc routers to build also, and thats really what pays the bills.

The V100 and V200 are basically the same drive except for the voltage range. V100 is 30-100 volts and the V200 is 65-170 volts.

The new drive will be cheaper than the older ones, once i get in production. The screw terminal one saves about $10 alone, (but ones with connectors are recommended.)

    Sah-WEEEEEEEEET !!!!!

Definitely a great improvement. (Only wished it would have been in my vipers.. but ahh well.. ) That will definitely make mounting the board MUCH easier.

    Another Great Job, Larry!

PS: Logging more and more hours on my Viper200's.. Absolutely NO PROBLEMS!!!

( I know - I gotta post the build log on that thing.... I will..soon.....)
