    Noise from a hpg, normal?

Hello: I have a handwheel on my mill, pulse wheel I guess. It makes noise at times, like a frying/squeeling sound. If you move the wheel a bit it changes or goes away. Is this normal? Its a AB unit if that helps.

Where is the noise coming from? The hand wheel? Drive motors? Power board? You may have a very small following error causing a low drive level to the motor. With PWM drive, you may be hearing the pulses (high frequency) trying to correct the error. Moving the wheel, may be correcting the error causing the drive to stop trying to move to correct it.

Normally there is very low current through a H.W. so there should be no electrical noise from the unit itself?
As Steve mentioned, it sounds more like the servo making the noise?
