Forgive me if the answer is obvious with a simple search, but what would be the most cost effective way to CNC this machine?

Using stock screws and some of these cheap CNC methods:

CR, thanks for the speedy reply.

Concepts aren't the problem, time is. Is there a stock mechanical kit to CNC the machine that can be purchased as a bundle? Is it close enough to the existing X2 that the current kits bolt right on with no modification?

CNCFusion has the kit. If you get the LMS larger travel mill, you would have to supply the larger dimensions for Michael to cut the screws.

AFAIK, there is no total bundle with the good gecko electronics, but that part is pretty much bolt-on.

That's exactly what I was looking for, Thanks!

I am putting this on the list to accompany a Mikini order for home shop use in the coming weeks... :rainfro:

I recently bought the larger table assembly from LMS and I am working on a cnc conversion for it. See thread here:

I know Michael will supply Ballscrews in longer lengths to order, but can't really speak for him on this. The New LMS table is both longer and wider, and the base is different, so a few mods to the whole kit might be necessary.

You can ask him about it though:

I got an email from Chris about two weeks ago on this mill. I'm really surprised no one has posted anything until now.

I tried to wait as long as could for the SX2 to be released, but I ended up jumping an an X2 from HF using a 25% coupon on Jan 1st. After waiting a couple months for it to show up and then getting really busy - I'm just now finishing cleaning it up in preparation for the cnc conversion. Already have all my electronics and a CNC Fusion kit on order for the conversion.

My question is, do you think it's worth waiting the additional time, trying to sell the X2, and paying over twice what I paid for the X2 originally in order to buy this SX2 from LMS? It would have been so much more convenient if this machine had just been released earlier... Oh well!

    YES!!!

This LMS SX2 is way superior to any other SX2 and FAR superior to a HF X2.

HF, with a receipt, should refund your money no questions asked when you return the X2 before 90 days are up.

You could call Chris at LMS and get an update on when they expect to have them in stock.

However, if you elect to go down this road, you will have to immediately contact CNCFusion and tell them not to make your kit yet--The Long table will require different mounts and screws.

    Thanks for the input!

Has anyone tried to create a BLDC conversion for the X2 yet? I know that the X2 still couldn't compete with the LMS SX2 based on the stock travels, table size, and overall quality - but at least there would be a little more incentive to keep the older machines. Since I only paid $360 + tax for the current machine and am brand new to milling, I think I'm just going to have to stick with this one for now. If I ruin a machine, I'd rather it be the cheapest option...

Not yet and I doubt there will be for a while till LMS gets a decently priced replacement in stock.
Keling has BLDC but for 220AC and no price listed. Imagine it's around the price of what you paid for the whole X2.

In my opinion, Sieg missed the ball with this particular upgrade, at least for us CNC folks.
We aren't looking for more low speed torque, just about everyone wants more RPM's.
They should have ( and maybe one day will) improve the spindle bearings and
provide a belt drive that gives 5-6000+ rpm at the spindle.
That would be much more beneficial.
Don't need gobs of power to run the little endmills but the bearings need to be able
    to handle the speed.
It'll be the same crapshoot, modding the BLDC belt drive for more speed, and
wait and see if the bearings last.
