Re: Connecting Huanyang VFD to Mach3 via Gecko 540

I have the spindle starting OK and the gecko controls the speed - but, speed is not correct!

Say I select 12K, indicates 11K something (maybe close enough.

But I select 24K and shows 15K on VFD.

    Thoughts on debugging.

There seems to be an algorithm there ... 12k = 11k , 24k = 15K Go midpoint to 18k and see what you get Where are you picking up your speed feedback? Put a digital meter on the inverters input ... perhaps the parameter (Span) needs to be changed

    Sorry for late response.

    Couldn't get to shed!

I connected spindle via SpindleTalker and it responded EXACTLY as one would expect. Select 6K and spindle (via VFD display) showed 6K, as did 15K or 20K or 24K.

Reset VFD back to control mode (mach3).

Select 2000, spindle starts and speed on VFD shows 888 (approx, small fluctuations).

    Others;

    2500 1366
    5000 3960
    8000 6864
    10000 8806
    15000 13176
    20000 14600
    24000 15900

I'm at a loss at what to check!

Re: Connecting Huanyang VFD to Mach3 via Gecko 540

From my reading of this thread I can see that there is a good bit of expertise with the Huanyang VFDs here!
My question is related - but may also be a thread hijack - please advise and I'll move it.

I wish to have 'ordinary' e-stops for limits etc on my setup, and am happy for the spindle motor to coast to a stop - although ramping down over a secon or so would be nicer.
BUT I also want an emergency stop. That is a complete stop of the motor in a split second. I've tried various combinations of deceleration parameters - which ultimately result in a DC overvoltage or overcurrent fault. TO overcome this I will add the generally missing braking circuit components and an exgternal braking resistor, However, I can't figure out if the deceleration ramps apply only to 'Stop' (4 in PD044 to PD49) or e-Stop (13 in PD044 to PD049) or both. I'm happy to use either but would like them to behave differently as mentioned above.
Anyone actually know what the difference between 4 and 13 is?

Emergency stop, stopping in split second?
You have to absorb energy from rotating parts, and as you have found this generates over-voltage.
The energy has to go somewhere.
Want it FAST? Use a brake. It will beat electrical methods for this VFD any day.

Again I'm going to revive this thread. Ok Wired my gecko 540 as in homman plans. Relay is working fine but spindle will not turn on through mach 3. Manual settings on VFD run the spindle. Maybe I missed something on the VFD settings?

Also reviving thread. Does any one have the homman plan .pdf? The link's broken now.

Are you referring to this: http://www.homanndesigns.com/pdfs/EN010_V8.pdf

Site is working and document is readily available.

That's the one! Weird that it didn't work for me at the time. Thank you!

Also if I don't have the relay set up, will I still be able to control the spindle speed once it starts?

The EN010_V8 circuit the DE-9 MALE connector is the control signal, for an external VFD.
The orange (pin 2), Vout controls - 0 to 10v - for (external) spindle speed. There is no spindle DIRECTION signal in this circuit.
The relays are for auxiliary things, such as coolant, mist, or whatever you decide they control.

Read the first post in this thread.... and the link in post #3 works. read the whole thread - (again!!??)
