G0704 Is it normal for the motor to smoke ?

I did not think so and Grizzly agreed with me and sent me a new motor and speed controller. My problem is that I also need the main board and led display. Grizzly has none and they are not do in until Jan 1 2011. Does anyone have another source for these parts ? I would also entertain any ideas that would get me up and running with just the motor and speed control that Grizzly sent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine did the same thing yesterday also. Hmmm.... Interesting. Im awaiting reply from grizzly. Otherwise I think I may use a 1.5 hp from a treadmill that is unused in the basement.

Yeesh. Wonder if this is related to the Q/C issue Grizzly refused the shipment about?

Is your speed controller alright ? Grizzly led me to believe that the speed controller is what caused the motor to overheat and die. My motor was reaching temps close to 190 F after 10 minutes milling aluminium , very light cuts I am still learning.

Not sure. I didn't take temp of the motor, but Im sure it was warm, thats why it smoked. I do think that the factory motor cover prevents any air movement and cooling, but thats just my opinion. I may be leaving it off.

I took my cover off when I did the break in procedure and it never went back on. I also added 2 Vantec Tornado case fans that move 85cfm each and the motor burnt up anyway.

    Blue Snow

My motor not only smoked but something that looked like "Blue Snow" spurted out of it. Grizzley replaced the motor no questions

    Ahhh..the legendary blue smoke.

Once you let the magic smoke out of the motor nothing will ever be the same again.
I love deadlines- I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Is there some kind of capacitor internally? That's the only thing I have ever seen electronics release anything of a floating nature unless some plastic actually caught fire. Capacitors can release a confetti-like material when they go pop.
