    hey hoss

might you be able to tell me why on my c41 vfd board I can only get the voltage I set it to for the analog output... I adjusted to the same voltage I got on the mill pot... i have the relay turning on and off the spindle button...when i activate the spindle the analog voltage goes to max 10.8 that i set it to...i cant get the voltage to vary by changing the rpm..i have the mill responding to the spindle button...so it does turn on with mach3 but have no rpm control...the instructions said i needed a 24v power supply to run the c41 but the input for power says 12/24v.. im using a 24 volt

i have all zeros in the spindle control box...it wont let me enter any other numbers

ok I figured out the spindle rpm and messed with the pulleys but still no response in rpm

    Hey Hoss,

I have watched all your videos and am impressed with the quality. What camera do you use to make your videos?

    Thanks,

are you entering a spindle rpm number in the mach 3 spindle box spindle speed dro and hitting enter to set it?
it needs a number there to turn the spinle on.

I've used a number over the years, right now it's a Nikon Coolpix L27.

yes sir i am.... i think theres something wrong with my mach3 download... in ports and pins, im having trouble with it bouncing around to different boxes and putting in numbers in boxes that i never clicked on or entered a number into and it locks out the slider bar and i have exit out and restart ports and pins to get it going again ...and it doesnt seem to want to let me freely assign pin numbers...the charge pump will not wor, on any pin other than 17...and output number 1 will not wor,k on any pin other than 17 .. so i im not using the charge pump right now..

strange thing is that i hooked up the wires to the pot and F1... as soon as i hit the spindle button it would start at full rpm...and stay there..i had no rpm control with the spindle box....i think it might the ports and pins problem....does the analog voltage control require is own port in motor ,outputs under spindle tab

i j ust realized when looking at the board that the pwm to the spindle board is an input....does that mean that i need to assign a pin to it with one of the outputs in ports and pins... im taking for granted the cat5 cable ... according to the manual the charge pump is mandatory pin 17 .. but i still cant get an output to take any pin that will activate the relay like pin 17 will... other wise all is working ok..

Set up with the proper driver and power supply they give excellent performance as my many videos have also shown.

    Hi Hoss

Newbie question - If the 570 is OK for Z then I take it 425's would be fine on the X & Y? and possibly on Z if counter balanced?

I'm not finished with my conversion yet and I just moved house so my mill is in pieces. In my old house I had it mounted on a bench, but in the new house I don't have a bench in the workshop yet, so I'm free to select bench or stand. Obviously a pro for mounting on a bench is that the mill is stable (assuming the bench is stable), but you would not be able to get to the back of it for maintenance. With a stand it could be moved around, but may not be as stable (depending on the construction of the stand). Recommendations?
I used one of the Shop Fox mobile bases, but added a 100lb 30"x24"x1/2" steel plate to the bottom, and mounted the stand to that. It seems to do a good job of adding some mass at the bottom, and makes the mounting points much wider, so it doesn't wobble as much.

I didn't use the leveling feet provided by the mobile base, as they don't allow you to level it in all directions. Instead, I opted for four hockey pucks as vibration absorbing mounts, and at $1 each, they are pretty hard to beat for price. I turned the threads off the end of the bolts, and drilled a hole into the hockey pucks. A washer on top allows the bolt to spin against the puck. Ideally it would be nice to have something to hang onto the pucks from below so they don't fall off when the load is taken off, but for the number of times I've had to move the mill they work ok. I tried some real mounts, but the ones I ended up with were far too flexible, and allowed the machine to wobble too much. I also raised the casters, so there was more clearance underneath for the hockey pucks.

I am interested in how you plan on doing this. I have the same problem. so lots of pics please
I just extended mine by adding a M6 57.5mm spacing stud (McMaster-Carr #98867A270), a coupling nut (McMaster-Carr #93355A100), and then screwed the handle to the end. A bit of locktite, or a punch dimple in the side of the nut, prevents everything from loosening.

Here is a picture, with the spacing studs installed:

If i could choose between the 2 no i wouldn't use 425's. The cost difference isn't enough. 570's have inductances that make them ideal for running on a 48 volt power supply for great performance. Most 425's i've seen have much higher inductance and require a 72 volt power supply (technically 80+) to achieve best performance. If you only have 425's you could get by but they are not as ideal.

Had a little project recently to help make a new audio pipe for a friends quad. She did most of the work. It was her idea to use cheap cutting boards from Walmart and they cut nice, great stuff.
    She's awesome and loved it.

I actually have been getting along with (2) 262oz on x/y and a 570 on Z with a 4A/42v driver. It will do 180 ipm but I have it detuned to 120.

Not sure I have a point except as long as your choice is somewhere in the range of reason it will probably work.... Maybe not for geeking out every drop but well enough to do the job.
Q: How many tools does it take before a simple task becomes a project?
A: Just one. I'm the Tool that turns a simple task in to a project.

For the MAD Drawbar project, besides fabricating the brackets and buying the bellevue springs, do you need to purchase the tormach r8 drawbar or can I use the stock drawbar? I eventually want to purchase ER20A 1.38" Collet Chuck Straight Collet Chuck from Besellos on Ebay.

I don't envision building/using an the ATC since it has taken me over 3 years+ just to finish the conversion to CNC. (should have stayed single).

Tormach R8 drawbar? if you mean the tormach R8 collet then yes you should get one.

The g0704 stock drawbar is still used.
