    Just got CNC Lathe...Operating question.

Hello all, been lurking for a while and here I am.

I recently got an older CNC lathe (circa 1980) and I need help learning to use it. The guy I got it from has been very kind and has been teaching me how to program it using the G code. I was wondering if I could use some modern software (solidworks for design and some CAM software) to run the lathe.

    Thanks in the advance.

Sure, why not? You just need the software and a post processor that will output compatible code for your controller. What controller is on the machine?

Most simple lathe parts, I can't really see the need for CAM but I think you're going about it the right way; learn coding and syntax first, then perhaps move to CAM to tackle tougher parts.

    Best regards,
    Chuck
