Hi all; I was just wondering if anyone has any experience using any of the Tapmatic tapping heads on an X2 or other small machines. You can see an example of them here:

I'm looking to do lots of 4-40 tapping in aluminum and these heads seem pretty solid. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks!

Hi,

I have a small 30x tapping head. It's working ok on the X2, up to 6mm in Al, a little bit less is steel (about 5mm) due to low torque.

You will end up with limited space under the tap, so beware of big vices or rotary setup. But for small taps this is a very handy addition.

if you buy it used and take care of it, you can tap all your holes and re-sell it for about what you paid for it.

I like the Procunier tapping heads much better than the Tapmatic head. I have seen the Procunier head with collets fairly cheap on eBay. I think there is a better feel for the tapping with the Procunier head than with the Tapmatic.
