    edgcam 2010 and inventor 2010

    Hi all,

Just got a new version of Inventor, version 2010, and I find I can't open any Inventor 2010 solids in Edgecam2010. I get a error along the lines of 'new version, can't open it, so sorry.'

I've installed SP1 for edgecam, but no joy. Is there something I'm missing?

    Save ACAD in earlier version

If saved as ACAD 2000 (or maybe 2004) then it should work.

Thanks, but that would only work with 2D files.
I work with solids, and you can't save an inventor solid as an autocad file.

    3d is OK

ACAD 2000 and 2004 .dwg files supports 3D.
If you export/saveas (whichever works) from inventor as ACIS (.sat) files they will load into EdgeCAM correctly.
Both ACIS and IGES files work well between various packages.
Super X3. 3600rpm. Sheridan 6"x24" Lathe + more. Three ways to fix things: The right way, the other way, and maybe your way, which is possibly a faster wrong way.

thanks but again, I need to work with the orginal inventor solids. Those formats are all b-rep surface models and as well as that I'd lose associativity back to the native inventor format. We change designs quickly, so I need that adaptability.

Edgecam markets itself as being able to do this, but at the moment it can't!

Get in touch with support if you're in the UK ... [email protected]

We use Inventor 2010 so Support should be able to confirm what license you need, and what formats are supported.

ah, sussed it for anyone else with the same problem...

As we're currently swapping from inventor 11 to 2010, I'm flipping between two installations. If you're currently using 11, then you can't open 2010 inventor models in edgecam. When you run inventor2010, it registers itself and then you CAN open inventor 2010 models in edgecam 2010.

I've tried to install the edgecam link onto solidworks so the files would autoatiomatcally update ,in edgecam whenever there is a change in the solidworks file and more detailed information is attached to the drawing that isn't normally available. It says that an export to edgecam option is suppose to appear in the file menu but no luck and I cant seem to find any help on the topic or guide line on what works edgecam2010( do all the linking programs have to be 2010 or can they be 2009 versions to link to edgecam 2010?) Any help would be appreciated

With Inventor at least, you need to have the analagous releases of each program - i.e. inventor 2010 goes with edgecam 2010.

I find the link module flakey at best, but if you use 'file --> insert --> solid' to call in your models, they will still link. Change the solid and an alert will appear to tell you the model has changed and do you want to update your edgecam files.

This is for inventor, not solidworks, but I imagine it's the same.
