    Angular Contact Bearing Supplier

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me where they go for bearings. I am looking for a cheap supplier of Angular Contact Bearings for a 17mm ballscrew shaft.

The only supplier that I found that was decently cheap was
    http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit6932

Can you guys recommend any others that you know are decent and cheap?
    Thank you.

VXB is as cheap as you'll find, and the quality is quite respectable. Buy them in pairs, and they'll work just fine.

    Preload on the bearings.

    Ray,
Thank you for the response. I still have some more questions though.
I can't see that these bearings have the preload built into them. Here is what I have found.

    http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit8887
    http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/Kit8747
    http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/kit839

These three links are to single row angular contact bearings, but they don't say that they are built for DB or DF configurations, and also don't have any specs on the preload. So do you have to design a shim in order to put them in the DB or DF configurations?

I would have thought that they would have these specs on the website, but I'm unsure of how everyone on here does this? I wouldn't have the faintest clue of how to measure the preload and how to get the spacer the right size if you can't mount them in the DB or DF configurations.
Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated!

Yeah, VXB is real light on specs. But the ones I've bought (http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PRO...ONTACT/Kit1086), came in pairs, and when I mounted them back-to-back, they were nicely pre-loaded, and zero backlash. You'd no doubt do better paying 10X as much for name-brand matched pairs, but on a hobby machine, I doubt it'd make one bit of difference in performance. And, at VXBs prices, you can afford to buy some shims, or buy several pairs and mix/match to get two that work nicely together.

    Hi speedy,

I'm in a similar boat- looking for some AC bearings.

I'm looking at these guys here to replace the thrust bearings on my Z axis X3 (will have to bore out the existing bearing block).

    http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PRO...ONTACT/Kit1085

I called VXB and it doesn't sound like these are matched or ground. I've been reading about preload and ways to achieve it - springs, shims or grinding the bearing- but I think these talks are targeted towards people building spindles. Do you guys think I will be okay setting the preload using the nut on the ball screws?

    Thanks
    Adam

    This is a good thread:

    Look at post #34.

I'm building a gantry router and I'm using two vxb 7201b's per ballscrew. Just make sure you mount them in the correct direction relative to one another. I have a drawing somewhere of the bearing block if you need it. It's pretty simple.
