Re: Ball in a cage example

Where did you find the model? The problem with this is that it has a set cut path which it steps down in Z to cut each face. It does the whole path, steps down and does it again. You cut a lot of air and each face took me 30-45 minutes.

If I could get a model I could program it to rough and finish and not cut air as much. I've not made any since the first. It was neat as heck but just took too long.

The model is really easy to draw, did one from Baltic birch ply years ago, left the ball attached to the bottom though.

    wow
Just found this wanting to learn more about parametric programming

Like others have mentioned above it took about 10 minutes to design this.
I use cam software and different types of operations on each of the six sides. that took a bit more time
Was fun and I also did a couple variants.

    Attachment 245010
    osage orange, mahogany and acrylic.

    Clip of cam screen

    Attachment 245012

no parametric programming in these. Just started learning these techniques.

Say, could you attach the graphics file? What CAM system did you use? I can do pretty basic stuff in MasterCam.
