Perhaps a bug in simple one line code??

This evening while playing around setting up TurboCNC.
I input a simple one line code
    I.E. G00 X4.9792 Y3.3323 Z0.0.
Thinking this would send the cutter head directly to that location.
It did not. The cutter head followed an exact 45 degree heading to Y3.3323 then traveled X to X4.9792.

Is there something in the settings that I have missed that would cause this?

    TIA
    Neil

It takes the fastest route to the final location, since it's a G00 move (rapid). Try that with G01 and you will get a straight line to the same location.

That is one of the common rapid methods used in the cheaper cnc's, even my Shadow/Bandit controllers do that. It does take some care sometimes, because the 45 degree dogleg can sometimes inadvertantly run the tool into a shoulder or a clamp.
I cannot imagine that it is faster than a straight line 3 axis rapid move, but there must be a saving of 10 cents worth of semiconductor to justify it from the manufacturer's viewpoint.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)

Yeah, it's not faster, just no math involved..
