Hello,

I am working on a Haas VF3. I have setup a roughing program with a 5/8 5fl carbide endmill to contour a part with 0.20 width of cut and 0.500 depth of cut.

When machining Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel:

The tool cuts great climb milling the front side of the part when getting around to the backside the tool starts chattering really bad.

Has anyone ever had a table feeding issue in one direction only on a Haas with a heavy depth of cut?

This might be a dumb question, but I assume the workpiece geometry is stable enough to avoid the chatter? It pops into my head because I make some thin-walled objects that always chatter when the tool is in a particular position on the wall finish pass. At first I thought it was being caused by chips, but I realized the actual cause later...

The workpiece is rigid. The thickness of the material starts 1.25in on a rectangular part when contour profiling 0.2in per side.

Keep in mind, The issue is only in one direction of the x axis. Climb milling with the same tool, feeds and speeds.

Could be slop in the x axis ball screw.
