How do you get Backlash Compensation to work correctly.....
I keep getting a little gouge when it comes to a spot to compensate.....
I tried 10% and 20% in speed with no change and I have .05 in shuttle speed

Some of your woes could be due to bearing hysterisis - slop - that can NOT be totally comp'd for by B/L comp. THis issue is especially the case at direction changes.
Essentially, you can only put in SO much theoretical "comp" for lost/monkey motion that occurs due to stick/slip/hysterisis of the ball screws and other supports. Until/unless you get rid of that slop, you can do some comp'ing but you'll eventually be chase your tail
I'm pretty sure Bob Campbell did s post where he showed/explained how slop works and/or the limitations of the technique. From personal experience with my Extrak mill, when/if you find a way to eliminate the slop/hysterisis from machine vagaries, backlash "comp" is hardly necessary if any at all. When you get rid of the hysterisis, you'll also find that the machine just CUTS and you don't find yourself dancing around trying to hit numbers.
Time spent eliminating the need to use B/L comp is time (and $$$'s) VERY well well spent.
