BTW - One common problem on these machines is the "index" set-screw in the spindle is often set too deep, or is too large in diameter, and binds in the slot along the side of the collet. Sometimes the collet slot it too shallow, or too narrow as well. You should loosen or remove that screw, and see if it changes anything.

i tried my new TTS colleta and still the same problem. the index pin doesnt look to be a set screw, maybe pressed in? any idea how to get it out? i dont want to start trying to pound it out in fear that i might damage something
