Cool Optimum 180x300 CNC Gang tool conversion

    Hello All,

Here is a thread of an Optimum 1080x300 conversion that I am almost finished with. I have been at it for one and a half years now and really want it done!

I chose to do a gang tool as I haven't seen many of them on here and I will be able to fit four or five tools to the cross slide. Disadvantage is that you cannot use the tailstock but should I ever have to I will fit a quick change toolpost.

I had taken photos of all of the steps but sadly my camera went 'missing'. I will add photos of the assembly as it happens, the only part that needs work now is the mounting of the encoder and single pulse sensor for threading which I hope to do this weekend.

The control will be Mach and DeskCNC, I have built a box for both and then I can run them against each other.

    Enjoy!

    Greg

    Hi All,

There's been little progress, here's the lathe with the covers on. Both axes are running nicely at 7400mm/min, I'll slow that down later but it's cool to watch for now! I still need to add the encoder for threading and the single pulse/rev sensor. Then make some tooling for it, never ends!

    Enjoy!

    Hi Belli
I really like this conversion. Got any details on how you did it? Any info/drawings/parts used would be interesting.

    Regards
    Stig
