Hey guys hows it going? I have always like woodworking as a hobby. I have always always like using lathes like making spindles ect.....I want to upgrade and make a large lathe to make something like large columns like 8-10 feet. Right now I work in a custom welding and maching shop so making the frame for the machine and making heavy is no problem my problem is what motor what do I need????????
I have no clue what motor I would need to turn a part that size like would a normal lathe motor due or maybe do I need something bigger ect? Please help me what do I need?

    thanks guys

thanks for the link to that web site that was even more fancy then I was thinking. Heres the one I came accross on you tube

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7x6On0XSXg&feature=fvw"]YouTube- Turning huge columns on a homemade lathe[/ame]

Still hard to tell what motor to use to turn something like this doesn't looke too big but he doesn't spin it that fast. I just wasnt sure if I could find a use lathe and just remake the lathe to fit something this long like re do all the steel work and make it strong and just use the motor?

    Thanks guys
