This is a new machine and im trying to set it up...

First of all using mach 3, nema 23 motors 76mm length, TB6560 settings are 75%, decade mode fast, 1/2step.

They move nice with mach3 settup as 2000 steps about 80'ish velocity.

They move nice but then all of a sudden for no reason and random they will stop moving and vibrate causing a hum/buz noice.

I have tried turning the step dip to 1/16 this stops this happening but now when the motor is on but not moving I think locked its humming and high pitched noices is this okey or not ? Also im stuggling to get the speed back up.

Does anyone know the correct dip or program settings I should be using ?

Hi, it sounds like the motors are stalling. Can you disconnect the motors from the axis and try the same program and see if they still stall.

Many things may be the cause of a stepper drive stalling:

Resonance - tends to happen at a particular step frequency, can be alleviated by adding a flywheel to the stepper shaft or adding a damper ( look for stepper damper ).

To high a load - caused by either the mass you are moving or friction in the system, try dropping acceleration.

Insufficient PSU, the electronics does not have sufficient capacity and causes a drop in drive allowing a stepper to stall.

I have now noticed...

By grabbing the threaded bar or motor shaft failr gently it is easy to stop the movement and the vibrate/buzz comes back, its as iff the motors have hardly any torque ? Should I be able to stop the motor this easily ?
