    "Z" axis loosing position

I have a 1996 4020 with the 88HS controller that looses it's "Z" axis position at random times. what happens is that the machine will be running fine then all the "Z" dimensions go undersized randomly. has any body else experienced this? if so, how did you fix the problem?

If you send it back home and Cold Start the system again, does the Z go back to what it should be?

Our 1997 4020 (same control) is having the same issue. We have removed the way cover on the Z axis and checked to see if the Ball screw was floating. It doesn't appear to be. I'm going to dig into the top end when I get time to check mechanicals there.
