Hey gang,
Can anyone tell me where I can find a tooling plate about 12x24 in.
Aluminum or steel is ok.
or even a cheap online source for aluminum plate about the same size 1/2 to 3/4 thick.
LMS carry a couple plates but they are too narrow.

If you're in any reasonably big city, go to a metal supply and look through their drops.
If not you probably can't beat Speedy metals.
I used to find stuff at my recycling yard, but they won't let anyone wander around anymore. I have a perfect plate of 6061 24X48X3/4" that I bought there for $70! Some day just the right use will come along for it.

I recently replaced the 24x6 tooling plate on my minitech mill with a larger one - only half the width your looking for, though. I will second the speedy metals suggestion - I purchased the material for my new plate from there for a pretty reasonable price(30x9x1" thick was around $125 +/-). The cost to drill and tap the holes will likely exceed the material if you have it built for you.

Just like Ozzie said go to a local steel building supplier and usually they sell drops(leftovers). For $15 bucks I loaded up as much as I could carry.
