    Gibbs & Machine Works

Gibbs has entered an agreement with Machine Works to integrate Machine Works' rendering and simulation technology into Gibbs. There will also be an optional module for full machine simulation. This may come in the next main update this year. A couple weeks ago my local reseller said the next big update should be coming soon.
Check it out on Gibbs site.

    More to come

This is correct and there are more great things to come. The licenced light works for the part simulation and machineworks for machine simulation of holders, spindles, machines, everything. I think 2004 will be a big year for GibbsCAM. They will have a great IMTS with many surprises (im sure) that everyone will love.

Hey Gibbsgod, sometimes when I export from Inventor (using the gibbs plugin) the part is made up of really coarse line segments... Its not all the time though. Ideas? Is there a setting on how fine to make the arcs or something?

    Thanks.

    Inventor

From what I can remember from testing it back in the beginning....

The tolerence is set for you to the best amount based on part type and size. There are no settings that I know of, they should be standard.

I do have a question though....

In Gibbs, are you tightening up the FACET tolerence? This could be just a graphic thing!! Right click on the model and select properties. You will see a slider for the chord height. For an inch part set it to about .001 - .005 for a good smooth model.

If this is not the problem and the part is coming in faceted and not smooth, send it to tech support.

The Machine Works integration will have to be one of the best Gibbs updates in a few years, at least. Next I hope they tackle the surfacing tools and make some needed improvements in that area, because the majority of my work is 3D.
